Tiny Little Feet || Puckleberry

Rachel clapped her hands, smiling at him. She stood up to let him sit in the chair, letting out a squeal as he pulled her onto his lap. She kissed him softly as his arms brought her closer to him. As the kiss ended, she laid her head on his shoulder, looking around the store. She had been so focused on the chair, she hadn’t noticed the rest of the store, not that she saw much that she genuinely liked. “Let’s get this and head to the baby store. We won’t be able to get everything, but we can at least set up a baby registry and check things off as we go.” She got out of the chair with his help. She let him grab the rocker as they walked to the front of the store. She smiled at the older woman behind the counter, seeing Noah come up beside her. “Hello there! How far along are you?” Rachel put a hand on her belly, smiling a bit. “Fourteen weeks.” She loved talking about her pregnancy. Really, she had it easier than most, considering she didn’t have morning sickness, but she just loved being able to have her body take care and raise something so tiny. “You are so big!” Rachel chuckled a bit, biting her lip. “We’re having twins.” The older woman’s eyes widen and Rachel look over at Noah who was trying not to laugh. She held her hand out for him to give her the sonogram picture. Once she had it, she showed it to the older woman, who was smiling at her. “Oh wow. They look beautiful.” Rachel nodded, before looking back at her. “How much for the rocker?” “Normally seventy dollars, but for you two, it’s free.” Rachel gaped at the woman, trying to find the words to speak. “I know what it’s like to be very young and trying to start a family. Just promise me you’ll love these two with every inch of your hearts.” Rachel nodded, tearing up a bit. “We will.”

It was crazy that he would actually enjoy this, seriously. He honestly thinks that anything would be enjoyable in his eyes as long as it got Rachel to smile like she was right now, like this was the best thing in the entire world and nothing would ruin it. And in a way, those things were true. He sat down in the rocking chair when she got up, but he didn’t let her get too far before his fingers curled around her wrist and pulled her back towards him. He chuckled as she landed in his lap, his arms automatically wrapping around her waist and meeting her lips with a smile. He leaned his chin on the top of her head, sighing contently at everything at this moment. Honestly. It was crazy how happy he is, how happy they are right now, even with everything that’s going on around them. He wouldn’t change it for anything though, because it all includes Rachel, and he would never trade that for anything. He nodded, “We can do that.” He didn’t want her to push herself too hard, she said before that she was tired and wanted a nap. So he was definitely going to limit their time in the baby store once they got there. He grabbed the rocking chair with his free hand, the others wrapped up in Rachel’s, while he walked to the front of the store by the registers. And he was surprised he made it through the entire confrontation with the old lady without laughing or rolling his eyes, even when Rachel asked him to pull out his wallet-sized sonogram photo. He was relieved when she finally stopped talking, giving the old lady a thankful smile before heading out of the store. He secured the rocking chair in the back of his truck before helping Rachel into her seat, closing the door and heading over to his side. And they assumed the same position as before as soon as he was buckled up and pulling out of the parking lot, “After this, we’re going home.”
